October is Non-GMO Month! Launched by the Non-GMO Project, this annual celebration highlights the significance of transparency within supply chain systems and to support biodiversity.
A GMO, or genetically modified organism, is a living organism that has been subjected to some form of biotechnology. GMOs are separate from the process of selective breeding, which is a natural progression of developing certain traits within the organism over time. This biotechnology used to develop GMOs includes techniques in which the DNA of the organism is altered synthetically or forcefully.
The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization established in 2007, founded in efforts to build and preserve a transparent non-gmo focused supply chain. Verified products are 3rd party evaluated to ensure they meet the requirements of the Non-GMO Project Standard. The recognizable Butterfly label given to verified products makes it easy for consumers to identify and source non-gmo products.
