One may be wondering what makes Castor Oil – Virgin USP unique? For one, it meets USP, otherwise known as United States Pharmacopeia, criteria and specifications. Internationally respected, the U.S. Pharmacopeia Organization is an independent, nonprofit authority that sets strict quality and purity criteria within industries that rely on transparency where consumer safety is involved. Their rigorous standards are intended to help to ensure that materials and products are appropriately identified and that they meet established, verifiable guidelines.
Another factor that makes the S1122 Castor Oil unique is the processing, or lack thereof one may say, to produce this raw material! Since it is a virgin item, it undergoes fewer steps than a refined oil, for instance. After cleaning, the bean-like seeds are pressed to release the valuable castor oil. The yielded castor oil is then mechanically filtered, dried, then filtered again and voila! The result is Virgin Castor oil, a highly sought-after ingredient for natural skin & haircare products.
During the late 2010s to 2020s, castor oil exploded in popularity as a trending beauty & personal care ingredient, yet its use for rejuvenation and pampering is nothing new. Originating in North-Eastern Africa, its application by humans dates as far back as 1550 BCE. Just a few years ago, castor oil was found in an ancient Egyptian burial chamber! Discovered in a clay pot of embalming mixture, it was combined with resins of pistachio, juniper & cypress, tallow and beeswax.
Consumer enthusiasm for this material has not waned since its recent boom. Often incorporated into formulas with other ingredients, many people prefer it as a stand-alone product. It is an emollient and possesses a uniquely desirable viscosity & lovely yellow-to-golden color. Beyond personal care products like shaving-creams, eyelash serums & moisturizing shampoos, it is also utilized in industrial applications. Such examples include polyurethane manufacturing and use as an engine lubricant for jets and racecars. Unlike other oils which can degrade natural rubbers, castor oil interacts well with latex-based products by conditioning and protecting the material without breaking it down. All this to say, castor oil is a tried & true ingredient, acting as a rejuvenating agent across all stages of life!
